Minds Matter

Ohio's Psychotropic Medications in Our Children

In partnership with BEACON (Best Evidence Advancing Child health in Ohio Now!), the State of Ohio is working with various healthcare leaders, stakeholders, and medical professionals to evaluate and improve prescribing of atypical antipsychotics and other psychotropic medications to the youngest members of the Medicaid population. Over the next three years, the state will invest $1 million to launch this new quality improvement initiative.

Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee

The Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, chaired by OPPA member Karen Jacobs, DO, is responsible for developing and maintaining medications and related products listed on the Ohio Department of Medicaid’s (ODM) Unified Preferred Drug List (UPDL) pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code § 5164.7510. The UPDL is maintained through a review of current evidence-based medicine and based upon the professional judgment of physicians, pharmacists, and other experts that participate in ODM’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee.

Ohio State Medical Association

The OPPA has a delegate and alternate delegate representative to the OSMA House of Delegates representing Ohio's psychiatrists.

The MIND (Mental Illness - No Discrimination) Movement

The MIND (Mental Illness - No Discrimination) Movement is a collaboration of Ohio agencies, organizations, and individuals joining together in the fight to end the discrimination surrounding mental illness. We all share this common goal, but until now, there hasn't been one common message and place for sharing anti-stigma/anti-discrimination resources.
