ODM director, Maureen Corcoran outlines nearly 1,100 defects in state's technology system

Recently, Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) Director Maureen Corcoran sent a report to Governor DeWine outlining a series of issues that ODM is currently working to address. The state's technology system that determines whether adults and children are eligible for Ohio Medicaid has nearly 1,100 defects, according to Director Corcoran. She described the problems in a 13-page memo to DeWine at the end of the year

Ohio Benefits, an information technology system that has cost the state $1.2 billion since it was implemented six years ago, has been found to overwrite and eliminate historical documentation needed to prove Ohio Medicaid enrollees' eligibility. It has ascribed incorrect dates for benefit renewals or has failed to trigger renewals at all.

Director Corcoran noted that the letter was drafted to inform the Governor about ODM's recent conversations with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and ongoing work to address issues within the Medicaid Program. The letter provides a summary of the state of the Medicaid program and the efforts the Medicaid team has undertaken since the new administration took over.
